João Paulo Reys

With a diverse background in film and media, João Paulo brings a wealth of experience to his roles as director, writer, and editor. A graduate of the University of Brasília's Film School, he has contributed to projects that include movies, TV shows, and advertising campaigns, working as a researcher, screenwriter, editor, director, and producer. Having collaborated with the renowned Brazilian artist Jorge Mautner for over a decade, João Paulo's body of work with Mautner encompasses books, music, two TV series, and the organization of Mautner's archives, a project sponsored by Itaú Cultural. In 2022, João Paulo's first feature as a director, the thought-provoking film "Mandado," premiered at the 55th Brasília Film Festival. Written during a workshop at Cuba's EICTV, the film features prominent figures such as Marielle Franco, Nilo Batista, and Maria Lúcia Karam, exploring themes of criminal justice and the contemporary history of Brazil.
