Bernard Lessa
Bernard Lessa is a filmmaker based on Espírito Santo, Brazil. He wrote and directed the short movie Tejo Sea (2013), exhibited on Janela Int. De Cinema do Recife, Panorama Coisa de Cinema de Salvador, Rio de Janeiro Int. Short Film Festival - Curta Cinema. The film premiered internationally in the Int. Film Festival of Tarapaca, in Chile and was awarded as best movie in Festival do Audiovisual Luso Afro Brasileiro and in Festival de Cinema Independente Kino-Olho. He also wrote and directed the short Blow, Howl, Whistle (2015) shown in Mostra de Cinema de Tiradentes, Mostra Outros Cinemas, Rio de Janeiro Int. Short Film Festival - Curta Cinema and São Paulo Int. Short Film Festival. The film premiered internationally on Int. Film Festival of Iquique, on Chile. The Night's Substance is his first feature film, in which he resumes his partnership with the actors Welket Bungué and Shirlene Paixão, from Blow, Howl, Whistle. The film was selected and awarded as the best film at Future Brasil Exhibit, a Work In Progress session for international curators during the 52nd Brasília Festival of Brazilian Cinema (2019), and premiered on Olhar de Cinema - Curitiba Intl Film Festival, where it received an Honorable Mention as Best Brazilian Film in Competition.
