Claire Margaret Corlett
Claire Corlett is a Canadian actress from Vancouver, British Columbia. She is primarily known for voice roles in animation. Her best known role was voicing the unicorn filly Sweetie Belle in the fantasy series "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic" (2010-2019). Sweetie Belle was depicted as the younger sister of the co-protagonist Rarity, and as a regular member of the club Cutie Mark Crusaders.
Due to their parents' frequent absences, Rarity was depicted as Sweetie Belle's primary caretaker. Sweetie Belle was typically depicted as having a genuine admiration for Rarity, and as feeling eager to spend quality time with her. On the other hand, Sweetie Belle was depicted as feeling overshadowed by her charming older sister. She also felt frustrated that she could not match Rarity's artistic skills, though her own failed efforts were mostly a result of inexperience and poor planning. Sweetie was typically depicted as a skilled singer and lyricist, though she was initially uncomfortable at the thought of performing for an audience. At one point, she even asked why was everyone expecting her to sing, rather than to display other skills.
In 1999, Corlett was born in Vancouver. Her father is the veteran voice actor Ian James Corlett, who has been working in the animation industry since the 1980s. Her older brother is the fellow voice actor Philip Corlett. James hoped that his daughter would follow in his footsteps, and helped her record her first demo by 2004. She was only 5-years-old at the time.
Corlett's first notable role in animation was voicing Sally Brown in the "Peanuts Motion Comics" (2008). The series consisted of 20 short film adaptations of the famous comic strip "Peanuts" (1950-2000). In the strip, Sally was the younger sister of the protagonist Charlie Brown. Her recurring subplots included her frustration with dogmatic memorization at school, and her unrequited love for the insecure intellectual Linus van Pelt.
Corlett next voiced Tiny Pteranodon in "Dinosaur Train" (2009-2020). The series depicted sentient dinosaurs who traveled the globe in a steam-engine train. The train also functioned as a time machine for episodes involving time-travel. Tiny was the adoptive older sister of the protagonist Buddy Tyrannosaurus. She was depicted as brave and intelligent, but petite and shorter than all her siblings (both adoptive and biological ones). Tiny was typically contrasted with her younger sister Shiny Pteranodon, who was far more timid. The series lasted for 5 seasons and 100 episodes.
Corlett voiced Dizzy, the sentient tilting drum cement mixer in the American dub of "Bob the Builder" (2015-2018). The series was a British-Canadian co-production, and a reboot of the older series "Bob the Builder" (1999-2011). Dizzy was typically depicted as energetic and excitable. The reboot series lasted for 3 seasons and 130 episodes.
In 2020, Corlett started dating her fellow voice actor Gabriel Christian Brown. By 2021, the couple lived together in Arizona. Corlett and Brown announced their engagement to each other on January 29, 2022. They were married to each other in November of the same year. By 2023, Corlett was 23-years-old. She has never ceased working on new roles in animation, and she has gained a fan following for well-received older roles.
