Catherine Lurie is a director, producer and writer and is known for creating the film Back to Berlin which follows a group of Jewish bikers on a journey from Israel to Berlin, carrying the torch for the Maccabi Games in 2015. Earlier in her career she was the youngest investigative journalist ever appointed to the Business section of the Sunday Times in South Africa. She is also the European Correspondent for the New York-based TV Channel JBS. Her company, Luria Media, is developing and producing multimedia projects focusing on subjects relating to humanitarian causes and foreign politics. After working as a correspondent covering the 2013 Maccabiah Games in Israel, her passion for the topic grew when she discovered the heroic bikers of the 1930s. On hearing the news that Germany would host the summer Maccabi games for the very first time on German soil. She felt she had to create a 21st century mission and to capture this ironic moment for everything is symbolizes. The Back to Berlin film is a stand against racism and genocide. But is also portrays the strength and power of a people overcoming the worst of atrocity of the 20th century.
